Peyton Manning Dwayne Haskins Jersey , the greatest regular season quarterback in history, hit the highest of highs and also the lowest of lows during his career, and there was a time before he signed for the Denver Broncos when it appeared as if Manning’s career was finished. That, of course, was not the case, as Manning returned from multiple operations and eventually won the final Super Bowl of his legendary career before riding off into the sunset. Even Tom Brady lost an entire season to injury back in September 2008. That did not stop Brady’s assaults on opposing defenses, record books and maybe even some NFL rules and regulations depending on what you believe regarding certain stories. It should not surprise anybody who actively follows the NFL that quarterbacks take up the majority of the spots in a list about NFLers who have had roller-coaster careers. QBs are, after all David Long Jersey , the faces of NFL teams and those who are the top-tier QBs in the league also serve as the CEOs of their offenses. Even QBs who possess multiple Super Bowl victories are scrutinized with every miscue, interception or failed drive that does not result in his team finding the end zone. As you will see, some NFL players who have had roller-coaster careers eventually managed to climb back from figurative holes and return to greatness. Others, however, may never again reach the heights they achieved during the best days of their careers. Blake Bortles remembers the first time Jalen Ramsey got under his skin.

Bortles was trying to get through a two-minute drill during the 2016 season. It was a weekly walkthrough routine in which players were supposed to go half-speed while practicing plays. Normally, there’s no contact and every pass is complete.

At least that had been the case until Ramsey arrived.

Bortles threw several passes in Ramsey’s direction. The rookie intercepted or knocked down each one.

It happened week after week until Bortles finally stopped throwing Ramsey’s way.

”It was so annoying,” Bortles recalled Thursday.

It also set the tone for Ramsey’s career. The trash-talking cornerback has a flair for frustrating quarterbacks and receivers and the ability to essentially shut down one side of the field. After 33 games, Ramsey’s already considered among the best players in franchise history – a 23-year-old rising star who openly aspires to be as good as Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and often looks the part.

”The best I’ve ever seen in person http://www.losangelesramsteamonline.com/bobby-evans-jersey ,” Bortles said. ”He’s freakish.”

Ramsey is a major piece of Jacksonville’s defensive turnaround, and he’ll take center stage Sunday when the Jaguars (11-6) play in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs at Pittsburgh (13-3).

Ramsey will shadow Antonio Brown , widely considered the best receiver in the NFL.

All-Pro vs. All-Pro, undoubtedly the most intriguing matchup of the postseason game.

”It’s not many receivers I’m going to come in here in front of y’all and say they’re one of the best in the league,” Ramsey said. ”He is, though. That’s the truth about him.”

Brown caught 10 passes for 157 yards in the first meeting against Jacksonville, which won 30-9 in early October. Ben Roethlisberger targeted Brown a staggering 19 times, with three of those ending up as interceptions.

”He’s an elite player Greg Gaines Jersey ,” Ramsey said. ”Highly regarded by everybody, honestly, around the nation or maybe internationally. So, yeah, it’s going to be a challenge. We’re going to have to be on our Ps and Qs and try to execute the game plan as best we can.”

Jacksonville’s game plan has changed slightly since the first meeting.

Ramsey and fellow Pro Bowl cornerback A.J. Bouye played sides to start the season, covering whatever receiver lined up in front of them. But Ramsey has since started following the top wideout for every opponent all over the field, and he’s had rousing success against Houston’s DeAndre Hopkins, Indianapolis’ T.Y. Hilton Christian Wilkins Jersey , Cincinnati’s A.J. Green, Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald, Los Angeles Chargers’ Keenan Allen and San Francisco’s Marquise Goodwin.

Ramsey angered Green so much with his constant verbal jabs that the mild-mannered receiver grabbed the cocky cornerback in a headlock and tossed him to the ground. Both players were ejected.

”He’ll get in a guy’s head now,” linebacker Telvin Smith said.

Added Bouye: ”Everything he’s accomplished, he’s worked for it. He’s capitalized. He’s learned from his mistakes and he keeps getting better week in and week out.”

According to Pro Football Focus, Ramsey has allowed 47 receptions for 586 yards and three touchdowns this season. He has five interceptions, including one to seal a 10-3 victory against Buffalo in a wild-card game.

It was about what the Jaguars have come to expect from the fifth overall pick in the 2016 draft. He has a rare combination of size, speed http://www.miamidolphinsteamonline.com/michael-deiter-jersey , instincts, ball skills and body control. And he’s no longer a rookie.

”You see the maturity in the meetings and you see the maturity on the grass,” defensive coordinator Todd Wash said. ”We always knew he was a freak athlete and we always knew he could play. But that maturity level is getting better and better each day.”

His matchup against Brown will be his next – and maybe his best – challenge.

”It’s going to be an unbelievable thing,” Jaguars safety Barry Church said. ”I’m just glad I’m on the field for it. Those guys, they both like to talk a bit of trash and they’re going to be matched up with each other the whole game. It’s going to be a great one. We’ll see who gets the better of the two, but my money’s on Jalen.”

Fittingly enough http://www.giantsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-oshane-ximines-jersey , too, since he’s about to face a Cincinnati Reds pitching staff — mainly, reliever Michael Lorenzen — that is doing some pretty historic things themselves. Only with their bats and not their arms.

The 22-year-old Peralta is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA in his first four major league starts, including two in which he has struck out 10 or more and allowed only one hit. He’s the first pitcher in baseball’s live-ball ERA to do that, and the first Brewers pitcher to have two such games in a career.

How good has Peralta been? He has permitted more than two hits in only one of the four starts. In 22 2/3 innings, he has allowed only seven hits and struck out 35.

Peralta is the first major league pitcher since at least 1908 to give up three hits or fewer and strike out at least five in each of his first four career games.

“His stuff looks electric from center field Julian Love Jersey , and you can see that in the swings and takes and called strikeouts,” Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich told reporters after Peralta pitched seven shutout innings of one-hit ball to beat the Kansas City Royals 5-1 on Tuesday. “He’s been great every time he goes out there, and hopefully that continues.”

Peralta is doing it without an overpowering fastball, like so many other young pitchers are today. He’s throwing his four-seam fastball at an average velocity of 91.2 mph, or about what an average starter threw 15 years or so ago.

“He’s got a high spin rate and the ball just kind of jumps at you, even though it’s 92 mph http://www.giantsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-darius-slayton-jersey ,” Royals manager Ned Yost said.

If the last-place Reds can get to Peralta on Sunday at Great American Ball Park — and no team has yet — they would split a four-game series in which they lost the first two games.

Cincinnati bounced back from a 3-2 deficit Saturday with an eight-run seventh inning powered by a pinch-grand slam from Lorenzen off a Jacobs Barnes fastball and went on to win 12-3 for its 10th victory in 13 games.

“Michael Lorenzen was pretty special,” Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman said.

Pinch-hit grand slams are rare enough. But by a pitcher?

What’s even more remarkable is Lorenzen also homered Friday night during an 8-2 Brewers victory, and he homered in his previous at-bat before that while pinch hitting against the Chicago Cubs on June 24.

“I love playing baseball,” Lorenzen said. “Every day, I look forward to contributing in some form.”

That’s three homers in the last three at-bats for Lorenzen, who’s quickly becoming the National League’s bullpen equivalent of the Angels’ multi-dimensional Shohei Ohtani.

Lorenzen is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 15 games Quinnen Williams Jersey , and he’s 4-for-6 at the plate. He’s the first pitcher with multiple pinch homers in a season since Brooks Kieschnick in 2003 — and he has done it in only a week.

“The guy’s swinging the bat really well, that’s for sure,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “We treat him as a position player. Obviously, we’ve got to make some adjustments … he’s swinging it well.”

Then there’s this: No Reds pitcher had hit a grand slam in 59 years, or since Bob Purkey in 1959, until starter Anthony DeScalfani did it June 23 against the Cubs. Now http://www.jetsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jachai-polite-jersey , Reds pitchers have hit grand slams twice in eight days.

Lorenzen’s homer was more than enough for the Reds to overcome Eric Thames‘ 14th home run against them in the two seasons and his fourth this season — the first three of which were game-winners.

Only two of the Reds’ 15 hits Saturday were for extra bases — Lorenzen’s homer and a Scooter Gennett double — but they were 8-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

Peralta will go up against veteran right-hander Matt Harvey (3-5), who has recently given the Reds a glimpse of his former dominating self with the New York Mets. He has won each of his last two starts, giving up three runs in 12 2/3 innings, after going 0-3 in his previous four starts.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos placed rookie rushing sensation Phillip Lindsay on injured reserve Friday along with wide receiver Andre Holmes (ankle). The signed outside linebacker Aaron Wallace and cornerback Horace Richardson to take their places on the 53-man roster.Neither newcomer is expected to suit up on Sunday when the Broncos (6-9) face the Los Angeles Chargers (11-4).“Probably not,” coach Vance Joseph said after the team’s third consecutive indoor practice Friday. “They’re flying in and getting physicals today. It was more about future contracts than it was for Sunday.”Lindsay was scheduled for surgery Friday and is expected to spend six weeks in a cast and six in a split. He’ll miss the Pro Bowl next month after becoming the first undrafted offensive player in NFL history to earn a Pro Bowl selection. His absence makes eight offensive players who started multiple games for the Broncos this season who won’t be in uniform Sunday.Lindsay injured his right wrist Monday night in Oakland shortly after becoming the third undrafted running back in NFL history to rush for 1 Chuma Edoga Jersey ,000 yards his rookie season.

He’s the New Orleans Saints‘ biggest fan http://www.minnesotavikingsteamonline.com/dru-samia-jersey , not to mention the perfect beacon for a city that knows a thing or two about emerging from darkness. Steve Gleason is along for the ride.Sure, his body failed him, perhaps because of the game he loved so much. But Gleason never lost his desire to live and love and make a difference. That’s really what’s keeping him alive, even though the debilitating condition known as ALS — Lou Gehrig’s disease —has reduced him to communicating with his eyes, some strained facial expressions and a computer-generated voice that he recorded before he lost his ability to speak. His mind is as strong as it’s ever been.So is his passion for the Saints. He attends practices. He attends every home game. He’ll be there Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Rams in NFC championship game.“There’s only maybe a handful of guys that played with Steve Gleason or knew Steve Gleason as a player directly,” said quarterback Drew Brees , one of that handful on the current roster. “Yet this team has embraced him. He is absolutely one of us. He inspires all of us every day. He inspires so many people in this community every day.”Gleason ensured folk-hero status in his adopted city for one particular play in 2006.After the Saints spent an entire season playing on the road in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the first game back at the Superdome will forever be remembered for Gleason’s blocked punt that sparked a 23-3 victory over the their biggest rival, the Atlanta Falcons. The game symbolized the rebirth of New Orleans after the devastating storm and a remarkable season that didn’t end until the Saints lost at Chicago in the NFC championship game.Gleason spent the next season on injured reserve and then retired, so he wasn’t on the field when the Saints captured the city’s first major pro sports championship at the 2010 Super Bowl. The following year, he revealed the diagnosis for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a terrifying motor-neuron disease that robs a person of the ability to walk, use their hands, speak, swallow and breathe. The condition is terminal, usually taking its victims within two to four years.Researchers have theorized that repeated head injuries, like the ones far too common in the NFL, increase the chances of being stricken with ALS. It was cited in the death of former fullback Kevin Turner, who lost his fight almost three years ago at age 46.But Gleason has never blamed football for his predicament. He’d prefer to keep the focus on what he’s doing in his life, not how he got here.Like a handful of those with ALS (most notably Stephen Hawking Daniel Jones Jersey , who battled the disease for more than 50 years before dying last March at age 76), Gleason has defied the expected timeline from onset to death. A tracheostomy allows him to breathe with a ventilator. A feeding tube ensures he gets enough nutrition. His family and support team give him a chance to lead as full a life as possible. But, most of all, Gleason’s survival is probably a result of his will to keep going, something that wilts away for most suffering with ALS. Now 41, he wants to be around to watch his two young children grow up. He wants to transform his devastating disease into a conduit for hope, to help others keep fighting while doing all he can to find a cure. His efforts have not gone unnoticed. Most notably, Gleason is the first NFL player to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the body’s highest civilian honor.“ALS is a remorseless and humiliating disease,” Gleason wrote after learning of the award. But, he added, “Michel (his wife) and I have two spectacular kids, Rivers and Gray. I’m productive and purposeful. In many ways, I feel I’ve conquered ALS.”The disease certainly didn’t rob Gleason of his sense of humor, which is most evident on a Twitter feed that he keeps humming with a special device allowing him to type out messages using only his eyes, always concluding with his initials “SG” so everyone knows it came straight from him. Before Saints games, he’ll often park his wheelchair on the sideline near the area where the opposing team is warming up and deliver a good-natured tweet: “#Intimidation.” On New Year’s Day, he wrote “Like most of you … I haven’t moved all day.” After the Saints pulled off a successful fake punt in their 20-14 victory over Philadelphia in last weekend’s NFC divisional round, Gleason wrote “#NeverPunt. Ever” — a reference to the “Dear Atlanta, never punt” jab he sent out before the Saints faced the Falcons in 2014.In an interesting twist, this year’s Super Bowl is in Atlanta.Gleason is expected to be there Quincy Williams II Jersey , no matter if the Saints win or lose Sunday. He’s planning to host an event with other ALS victims as part of his Team Gleason foundation. He’s scheduled to pick up another award for his charitable efforts.Of course, Gleason would really be thrilled if the trip ends with a second Saints championship. His joy would be apparent to anyone who really looks. It’s all in the eyes. ATLANTA (AP) — Graying but still gritty, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots came to the Super Bowl intending to stave off, for at least one more game, the inevitable onslaught of the NFL’s future.Job well done.Pro football never looked flatter, older and more stuck in the days of the VCR than it did Sunday.Article continues below ...In a Super Bowl only New England could love, the Patriots won their sixth title by lumbering their way to a 13-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams — that young, brash, high-flying team with the 33-year-old coach and the 24-year-old quarterback who were, we thought, changing football before our very eyes.If only we could’ve kept them open.Among the Super Bowl records set: Fewest points by both teams (16); fewest points by the winning team (13); fewest combined points through three quarters (6); most consecutive drives ending with a punt (8 by the Rams); longest punt (65 yards). The halftime show with Maroon 5 offered no relief — roundly ripped, including by an Associated Press reviewer who called it “Empty. Boring. Basic. Sleepy.”He could have said the same about the game. But give credit where it’s due.The defense designed by Belichick turned Rams quarterback Jared Goff into a jittery mess. He completed 19 of 38 passes for 229 yards, with an assortment of rushed throws, misread coverages and, in the tiny windows in which LA showed any sign of life, a pair of terrible passes. One, trailing 3-0 in the third quarter, was late and high to wide-open Brandin Cooks in the end zone; the other, trailing 10-3 with 4:17 left in the fourth quarter, was high under pressure for an easy interception by Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore that essentially ended the game.“I know I definitely have a lot to learn from this one Ryquell Armstead Jersey ,” said Rams coach Sean McVay, who, at 33, is exactly half the age of Belichick.McVay has been the flavor of the month in the copycat NFL. Other teams have hired away three of his assistant coaches over the last two years, as the league tries to catch up with his newfangled offense that cracked 30 points in 13 games this season. On Sunday, it managed one 53-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein and didn’t take a snap inside the New England 20.Gilmore’s interception came minutes after Brady engineered the game’s lone touchdown drive. It was five plays and included four straight completions: 18 yards to Rob Gronkowski, 13 yards to Julian Edelman, seven yards to backup running back Rex Burkhead, then a 29-yard teardrop placed perfectly into the arms of Gronkowski, who was double-covered. Sony Michel ran it in from 2 yards for the touchdown with 7 minutes left.“We couldn’t get points on the board for one reason or another,” Brady said, “but in the end, it feels a lot better than last year, when we did get some points on the board.”Last year, the Patriots fell 41-33 to Philly in a back-and-forth thriller that essentially featured one good defensive play: a sack and strip on Brady by Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham with the clock running down. The year before, the Patriots scored 31 points in the second half and overtime for a riveting 34-28 comeback win over Atlanta and title No. 5.Then, this.New England’s road to a sixth Lombardi Trophy — tied with Pittsburgh for the most — was never easy this season. The Patriots lost five times, didn’t have home-field advantage through the playoffs and, after every loss, were beset by questions over whether the 41-year-old Brady and his 66-year-old coach might be winding down.Through it all, though Gardner Minshew II Jersey , they could score. New England averaged 27.2 points a game. And in the run through the playoffs, the offense scored 10 touchdowns and Brady barely got touched, and never got sacked. They were not clicking like that Sunday at the $1.5 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where 70,081 fans — most of them cheering for New England — watched the game.Other than Edelman, whose 10 catches for 141 yards won him MVP honors and made him look like a combination of Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice considering everything happening around him, the Patriots were out of sync.Brady’s first pass got intercepted. He went 21 for 35 for 262 yards and a passer rating of 71.4 — more than 26 points lower than he averaged this season.New England outgained Los Angeles 195-57 in the first half, but settled for two field goal attempts — one miss and one make — for a 3-0 lead at the break. It was 3-3 heading into the fourth quarter — the fewest points through the first 45 minutes of any playoff game since a 1980 barnburner between the Bucs and Rams that LA won 9-0.Maybe the biggest irony of all: The New England dynasty’s five previous Super Bowl victories came by 3, 3, 3, 4 and 6. Two were decided on the last play. The other three came down to the final minutes.Compared to that, this was a veritable runaway. On a day when New England held LA running back Todd Gurley to 35 yards, when LA couldn’t muster a drive longer than five plays for nearly three quarters, and when LA’s Johnny Hekker (eight punts, 46.3 yard average) was his team’s most effective player, a 10-point lead at the end felt like a million.“It’s a beautiful thing, man,” said New England cornerback Jason McCourty. And a game only the Patriots could love.

(AP) — Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right elbow, keeping the six-time All-Star off the field for the entire 2019 season. The decision was made after Perez received a second opinion Tuesday from Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ team physician. Perez hurt the elbow during a workout last week and said over the weekend that he was harboring a slim hope that he might be able to play through it.Instead, he is expected to undergo surgery on Wednesday.“There was nothing that can prepare us for this. There was no information we had that led us this direction,” Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. “Salvy was having no issues. He’s asymptomatic. He has wear and tear, just like any 28-year-old catcher who’s been squatting and catching since he was 12 years old. There was no warning sign or anything like that.”Perez hit just .235 last season, but he had 27 homers and drove in 80 runs while providing a solid and calming presence behind the plate. The MVP of the 2015 World Series http://www.astrosfanproshop.com/authentic-justin-verlander-jersey , Perez was being counted upon to help the rebuilding Royals take the steps necessary to return to the playoffs, particularly when it came to their young but promising starting rotation. Now, Cam Gallagher and Meibrys Viloria are expected to share time behind the plate.“We’re fortunate to have two really good, young catchers that have tremendous upside,” Moore said. “Cam is a young guy that can really receive. We feel highly confident in his ability back there to call a game, and we like Viloria a great deal as well as an emerging guy.”Moore also said he would scour the remaining free agents — Martin Maldonado, is still available — and reach out to other clubs about potential trades. Perez has won AL Gold Gloves in five of the last six years, with Maldonado breaking that string in 2017.But Moore acknowledged the Royals tried to acquire a veteran backup for Perez earlier in the offseason and came up empty.“We’ll see how camp unfolds,” Moore said. “It’s hard to get a third- Tyler Clippard Jersey , fourth-type catcher or veteran major league backup to join Kansas City. Nobody wants to do that. They see Salvador and say, ‘Well, I’ll never get a chance to re-establish myself.”That’s not an issue anymore, but most of the veterans that were available are in camp elsewhere. One thing Moore did make clear is the Royals have no intention of rushing MJ Melendez, one of their top prospects, to the big leagues. Melendez spent last season at Class A Lexington.“We’ll play that out and see where he is in July or August and if indeed we need some help there,” Moore said. “But you have to look at this as a positive, that it gives others an opportunity.”The Royals have embraced a run-run-run style of play this season, signing such speedsters as Billy Hamilton and Chris Owings. But that also means they have very little power throughout their lineup http://www.astrosfanproshop.com/authentic-justin-verlander-jersey , and Perez was expected to help provide the opportunity to change a game in one swing. His biggest value now will come as a cheerleader. He remained one of the most upbeat players in the clubhouse, even after the injury surfaced, and his experience is invaluable for a young team.“It’s definitely not ideal losing a captain, losing our best player. It’s going to hurt any team,” Gallagher said. “We have to come together as a group and fill those shoes a little bit.”
Vědátorna / Castellanos hit his fourth career grand slam
« Poslední příspěvek od zhangzk kdy Červenec 16, 2019, 04:45:46 dopoledne »
Stuck in an 11-game losing streak Christian Wilkins Jersey , the Detroit Tigers cleared the air with a pregame meeting. Then Nick Castellanos went out and cleared the bases with an important home run that helped stop Detroit’s slide.
Jordan Zimmermann pitched seven strong innings and the Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-1 on Sunday.

Manager Ron Gardenhire scheduled the pregame meeting, a relaxed session in which players were invited to say whatever was on their mind. Castellanos called it an opportunity to ”just kind of address the elephant in the room.”

”It gave anybody a chance that wanted to speak up to speak up,” said Castellanos, adding that Victor Martinez, James McCann and Gardenhire were among those who talked.

JaCoby Jones hit a two-run homer as the Tigers won for the first time since June 17, when they completed a three-game road sweep of the Chicago White Sox.

Castellanos nearly hit another home run in the ninth but Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar made a leaping catch at the wall.

”I felt like I was going to have a chance to make a play,” Pillar said. ”A ball like that hit as high as it is it allows me time to kind of track the ball and track the fence and go up to try to make a play. ”

Castellanos stopped on the basepaths to applaud Pillar’s catch before turning and heading back to the dugout.

”What else can you say the end of the day besides `What a play,”’ Castellanos said. ”It sucks it had to happen to me but plays like that have to happen to somebody.”

Niko Goodrum had a career-high four hits and Jose Iglesias had two hits and two RBIs for Detroit, which had lost 12 of 14 at Rogers Centre.

”That was a fun win, a really fun with with a lot of great swings Michael Deiter Jersey ,” Gardenire said.

Zimmermann (3-0) allowed one run and five hits in his third start since returning from a shoulder injury that caused him to miss more than a month.

”He had a great curveball today,” Gardenhire said. ”That’s probably the best curveball I’ve seen all year out of him.”

Wearing red jerseys and caps for Canada Day, the Blue Jays couldn’t deliver a win for the holiday crowd of 37,445.

Tigers outfielder Leonys Martin left with a sore left hamstring after his bases-loaded bunt single in the fifth brought home Detroit’s first run. Martin was replaced by Victor Reyes.

Following the game, Gardenhire said Martin would be placed on the 10-day disabled list. A corresponding roster move will be made before Monday afternoon’s series finale.

Castellanos followed with his 13th home run, a shot that bounced off the top of the wall in right. It was his first grand slam since Sept. 8, 2017, also against Toronto.

Castellanos also made a fine catch in right, reaching back to grab Russell Martin’s line drive for the final out of the fourth.

Iglesias chased Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ (10-4) with a two-out, two-run single in the sixth.

Happ matched season-worsts by allowing seven runs and 10 hits in 5 2-3 innings.

”It’s not a pretty outing and I own that,” Happ said.

Happ had won six consecutive decisions since his previous defeat Daniel Jones Jersey , May 10 against Seattle.

Teoscar Hernandez tripled in the first and scored on a two-out double by Justin Smoak, but Zimmermann recovered to retire the next nine Blue Jays batters.

For the second straight game, the roof was closed at Rogers Centre because of high heat and humidity.

Blue Jays RHP John Axford complied a list of more than 500 songs by Canadian artists and has been playing his mix in the clubhouse all weekend. Axford’s `Oh Canada!’ playlist can be streamed using the online music service Spotify.

The Blue Jays are 14-26 on Canada Day, including a 12-17 mark at home.

Tigers: RHP Alex Wilson, who left in the eighth inning Saturday because of a sore left calf, was not available. … RHP Drew VerHagen (nasal fracture) pitched one scoreless inning for Triple-A Toledo Saturday night, his first rehab appearance. VerHagen has been out since June 20.

Blue Jays: Toronto optioned utilityman Darnell Sweeney to Triple-A Buffalo after the game and will make a corresponding roster move Monday.

Tigers RHP Mike Fiers (5-4, 4.04) faces Blue Jays LHP Ryan Borucki (0-1, 3.00) in Monday afternoon’s series finale. Fiers is 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA in two career starts at Rogers Centre. Borucki made his major league debut at Houston last Tuesday, allowing two runs in six innings.

The fraud trial for four former executives and sales staff at the truck stop chain Pilot Flying J took a detour Wednesday when prosecutors played a portion of secret recordings that included one of the defendants saying the n-word and disparaging his boss’ NFL team.

A federal judge allowed jurors to hear part of the recordings after prosecutors and the defense negotiated a limited release of them, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported .

The judge has described the recordings as ”vile” and ”despicable.” The recording played in court showed the ex-workers in a rowdy meeting disparaging the Oakland Raiders and the Cleveland Browns Dexter Lawrence Jersey , the newspaper reported.

Pilot Flying J is controlled by the family of Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam. The Haslams were not at the meeting and have not been charged with any wrongdoing.

The four ex-workers on trial are accused in a scheme to shortchange trucking customers on diesel rebates. Fourteen former members of the Pilot sales team have pleaded guilty to participating in the scheme. The company paid a $92 million penalty to the federal government and settled a class-action lawsuit for $85 million. Prosecutors say the scheme ran from at least 2008 until agents raided the company’s headquarters in 2013.

The audio played in court included former Pilot Flying J President Mark Hazelwood using the racial epithet and saying derogatory things about the Browns.

Hazelwood’s attorney, Rusty Hardin, brought Hazelwood’s character and business sense into the trial, painting him as too smart of a businessman to do anything to endanger the company. That gave the prosecution an opening to use the recordings to dispute the defense position.

The other defendants in the case – former Vice President Scott ”Scooter” Wombold and former sales representatives Heather Jones and Karen Mann – have said they aren’t on the recordings and are being prejudiced by them. The judge has declined to declare a mistrial for them or allow separate trials.

The recordings were made by a former Pilot Flying J worker. The newspaper has asked that transcriptions of the recordings be unsealed.

The company has said Jimmy Haslam was not aware of any wrongdoing within the company, and the governor has not been involved with the company’s business activities in recent years.

”We are very disturbed and appalled by the extremely offensive and deplorable comments recorded over five years ago involving a small group of former sales employees,” a Pilot Flying J spokesman said in a statement Wednesday. ”This kind of behavior is reprehensible, not tolerated, nor reflective of the guiding principles of Pilot Flying J and does not represent the values of the dedicated 28,000 team members that we have today.”

The statement said the company took action as soon as officials became aware of the recordings and that the employees who participated are no longer with the company. No one currently working for Pilot Flying J was present or participated, the statement said.

First and foremost is the offense that Perez brought to the Royals. Though he hasn’t been the strong, consistent hitter he was at the beginning of his career, the power he brought will be missed. That could prove tough to live with.Perez has been banged up a few times in the past few seasons. It is clear that its time for the Royals to start grooming a replacement. It may be inevitable that Perez will see himself as more of a DH with the occasional start at first base instead of a regular backstop. There are a couple of young catchers in the farm system but it is hard to say how long it will take before they will be Major League-ready. Having Perez around will be imperative to their growth. We can’t measure loss of leadership but this recent article by Rustin Dodd at The Athletic highlights the importance of Perez’s presence in the clubhouse. The article discusses two catchers the organization has high hopes for- Meibrys Viloria and MJ Melendez. However, neither appear ready to handle perhaps even a half season’s worth of work at the Major League level. Depending on what the present situation yields, the Royals’ hand may be forced. While both have the potential to hit, we don’t know what type of mentality they could bring to the pitching staff.Sounds like a lot of uncertainty here. For now, the Royals will be looking to 26-year old Cameron Gallagher to fill the gap. Gallagher is not regarded for his offense. Last season, fly balls constituted the vast majority of Gallagher’s contact. Fly balls aren’t always bad but when your HR/FB rate is a paltry 3.8%, you might consider reevaluating your approach. That, coupled with a 15.4% infieldpopup rate in 2018, is cause for concern over how the Royals offense might run without Perez in the lineup. However, Gallagher is capable of handling the required defensive workload and he’s familiar with a few current Royals pitchers. While he’s not Perez, Gallagher is definitely serviceable. Though he only had one error in 216 innings, if you scale that to what Perez did last year (831 innings caught) that’s at least five. For context, Perez has had five errors in his last two seasons. Gallagher is decent at controlling the run game but he’s at the mercy of whomever is on the mound to keep runners true. Though his presence has been limited to say with certainty http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , Gallagher doesn’t have Perez’s arm or instincts. There is one aspect of Gallagher’s skill set which makes him much better behind the plate. You could say the biggest determent to Perez’s game is his lack of pitch framing, a skill that can help even the most questionable of pitching staffs. When looking at his catching metrics, Perez ranked 98th in called strikes above average (CSAA) out of 117 eligible catchers in 2018. His -9.9 framing runs (FR) posted him at 112th. Needless to say he didn’t do a lot to help out a pitching staff that ranked in the bottom five of the most relevant pitching metrics in 2018. In 2018, Gallagher ranked 28th in fielding runs above average, adjusted for park factors (FRAA_Adj). This metric encompasses framing ability, run game control, and general catcher defense. With what we’ve just learned about Gallagher’s defense, that speaks volumes for his framing ability. Gallagher ranked 23rd in CSAA and 31st in FR. That’s pretty decent, and though it encompasses a much smaller sample size than most other regular catchers, its a sign of hope for Kansas City. Here is a perfect example of pitch framing from Gallagher. To provide further detail, notice where the pitch was plotted... ...and where Gallagher’s glove ended up. In 2018, 11 of the 27 qualified pitchers for the Royals hit the edges of the strike zone above the league-average mark of 42.5%. This includes starters Ian Kennedy, Jorge Lopez, and Keller as well as reliever Ben Lively (team-best 47%) and new arm Brad Boxberger. In general, it was a 50/50 split for called balls and strikes on pitches that fell on the edge of the zone. With Gallagher’s perceived framing skills, we have the possibility of seeing a lot more called strikes. The long term impact of this isn’t clear but that is certainly a positive considering most of those pitches were caught by Perez.A short time ago http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , I wrote a piece over at Pitcher List about Keller. Gallagher could be instrumental in pushing Keller into the upper-echelon of starting pitchers. We know what Danny Duffy, Junis, and the other veteran pitchers can do so a lot of eyes will be on the effectiveness of Keller. It may be a very tough road ahead for the Royals should the absence of Perez be long term. While there is some exciting young talent on the offense, the loss of veteran leadership along with the power he brought will be felt. If Gallagher can get his offensive contribution to at least approach league-average (47 wRC+ in 2018), I think the team can live with it. To cheer you up, here are two of Gallagher’s hardest-hit balls of 2018.Above all else, you can’t win if you don’t score. I think Royals fans might be pleasantly surprised with how Kansas City’s pitching staff could keep them in games having Gallagher as their battery mate. Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones is reportedly staying put despite interest from the Philadelphia Phillies.Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported the news Sunday Edwin Encarnacion Jersey , noting "there was a chance" Jones would go to the Phillies but elected to stay in Baltimore because of family, friends, his charity and the fans.Heyman pointed out there is a chance the Phillies could renew their interest following the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. It would make sense for the Orioles, who are in last place in the American League East, to move the 32-year-old Jones and add some younger pieces to facilitate a rebuild, but he has no-trade protection in his contract, per Spotrac. He is set for unrestricted free agency in 2019 and could choose to sign elsewhere in the offseason http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , although his decision to stay put for now suggests he is happy in Baltimore.Jones, a five-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glover and Silver Slugger winner, has struggled to maintain his power during the 2018 campaign. He is slashing .285/.312/.434 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI this season, and his streak of seven straight campaigns with at least 25 long balls is in jeopardy.Still, Philadelphia interest in Jones is justified given his track record, and it could use the power boost as a solid but unspectacular 13th in the league in total home runs. The Phillies are 1.5 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League East and looking for their first postseason appearance since the 2011 campaign. The Washington Nationals reportedly offered free-agent outfielder Bryce Harper a 10-year deal worth $300 million.According to Chelsea Janes of theWashington Post http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , that offer did not include any opt-out clauses.Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic noted the Nats likely knew Harper wouldn't accept the offer, and he mentioned Washington as a "fallback" for Harper if he doesn't get the deal he wants.Rosenthal added that Harper is hoping to receive a bigger contract than the 13-year, $325 million deal New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton signed with the Miami Marlins in 2014.Last year, an anonymous MLB general manager suggested to ESPN.com'sEddie Matzthat Harper could land a $400 million contract in free agency. On Tuesday, Nationals GM Mike Rizzo toldESPN.comthat Washington isn't giving up on bringing Harper back into the fold:"We've had conversations and we utilized our exclusivity to negotiate with him late in the season through when he became eligible to sign with a team. We didn't get anything done, but he's a guy that is near and dear to us and we are not closing any doors."The 26-year-old Harper is coming off his sixth All-Star nod in seven MLB seasons after he hit .249 with 34 home runs and 100 RBI in 2018.While Harper's batting average left something to be desired, he walked an MLB-leading 130 times and posted an on-base percentage of .393 http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , good for ninth in the majors.Harper made his MLB debut in 2012, just two years after the Nationals selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB draft. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year, and three seasons after that, he won the National League MVP Award when he hit .330 with 42 homers and 99 RBI.In 927 career games, Harper is hitting .279 with 184 home runs and 521 RBI.Because of his age and impressive resume, Harper is seemingly in line to land a record-breaking contract. His agent, Scott Boras Roberto Perez Jersey , has the reputation and skills to get him that sort of deal.Harper leads a strong free-agent class that includes shortstop Manny Machado, starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel, closer Craig Kimbrel and several other top-flight options.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Once he got the ball Kyle Freeland Jersey , Edwin Diaz made sure he finished.Juan Lagares scored from second base on Michael Conforto’s hard grounder to first in the 11th inning, and Diaz struck out the 3-4-5 batters to preserve the New York Mets‘ 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on a blustery Monday night.Mets manager Mickey Callaway’s decision not to use Diaz with two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth backfired, and the closer warmed up three times before finally entering the game. He fanned Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins and J.T. Realmuto to end it.“I’m ready anytime they need me,” Diaz said. “I came here to win. I’ll be ready in any situation.”Callaway said he prefers to use Diaz for one inning, so that’s why Robert Gsellman replaced Jeurys Familia with a two-out jam in the eighth. Gsellman walked Jean Segura on four pitches to force in the tying run, but Harper then swung at the first pitch and popped out.Lagares led off the 11th with an infield single against Pat Neshek (0-1), and Brandon Nimmo walked. Two outs later, Conforto hit a sharp grounder that Hoskins couldn’t field for an error. The ball trickled to second baseman Cesar Hernandez and Lagares kept running http://www.rockiesfanproshop.com/authentic-chad-bettis-jersey , scoring easily because the throw was way off target.“I was ready to score and I knew he didn’t catch the ball,” Lagares said.Luis Avilan (1-0) pitched out of trouble in the 10th, stranding runners on second and third. Diaz got his sixth save in six tries and his 16th in a row dating to last season with Seattle.Noah Syndergaard had a rough outing for the Mets, giving up five runs and nine hits in five innings while fanning nine.“I’m having a hard time gripping the ball,” Syndergaard said. “Not sure what’s going on.”Phillies ace Aaron Nola, who finished third in NL Cy Young Award voting last year, struggled again. He allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings. His ERA rose to 7.45 while Syndergaard’s climbed to 5.63.“He’s just not throwing the ball where he wants it,” Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said. “I’m concerned he’s not where he wants to go. Flip side is he has a long track record of success. He deserves as much confidence as anybody does.”Nimmo connected off Jose Alvarez in the sixth, driving his third homer to the seats in right to give the Mets a 6-5 lead. The Mets jumped on Nola for three runs in the third. Wilson Ramos Ryan McMahon Jersey , who spent the last two months in Philadelphia last season, ripped a two-run single. Jeff McNeil, who later made a pair of outstanding defensive plays at third base, followed with an RBI single. The Phillies answered in the bottom half. Harper had an RBI single and Realmuto tied it on a two-run single with two outs. After Robinson Cano lined a two-run double in the fourth, the Phillies tied it at 5 in the bottom half when Maikel Franco crushed an 0-2 pitch way out to left for his fifth homer.HONORING JACKIEBoth teams wore No. 42 jerseys to honor Jackie Robinson. Cano, who is named after Robinson, wore Nike cleats featuring images of Robinson sliding into home plate.ROSTER MOVEThe Mets recalled RHP Drew Gagnon from Triple-A Syracuse and optioned INF Luis Guillorme.TRAINER’S ROOMMets: 3B Todd Frazier is expected to return soon from a left oblique strain, but Callaway isn’t certain when.Phillies: RHP David Robertson was placed on the 10-day injured list because of soreness in his right elbow.UP NEXTLHP Steven Matz (1-0, 1.65 ERA) takes the mound for the Mets B.J. Pivetta is 2-2 with a 6.39 ERA in five career starts vs. New York. HOUSTON (AP) — Alex Bregman might be having the best season by any Houston Astros player this year.Only don’t try telling him that.“I have a lot of room to improve and I’m definitely not satisfied … I think I need to get a lot better,” the All-Star third baseman said.Bregman homered for the third straight game and Yuli Gurriel also connected as the Astros won their third in a row, 4-1 over the Minnesota Twins on Monday.Dallas Keuchel (11-10) scattered five hits over six innings and allowed one unearned run. Brad Peacock allowed a single with two outs in the ninth to load the bases, but struck out Jorge Polanco to escape the jam and get his third save.Kyle Gibson (7-12) yielded four hits and four runs — two earned — with five strikeouts in seven innings for his third straight loss.“I kind of struggled the last month or so with a little bit of command and executing pitches … other than a tough couple plays in the second it was pretty good,” Gibson said. There were two outs in the first inning when Bregman hit his 28th home run to give Houston a 1-0 lead. He has reached base safely in 31 straight games, the longest active streak in the majors. He has 13 hits, including four homers and three doubles, and 10 RBIs in his last eight games.“This is the best I’ve seen him play in a short career http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey ,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “He’s just very locked in … he’s very under control. He’s very locked in. He knows a ball from a strike. He’s hunting the right pitches. He’s laying off the right pitches. He’s a pretty elite performer.”Bregman has set a career high for home runs and leads the Astros in that category. He ranks first on the team with 89 RBIs and 43 doubles. He also has a triple this year to give him 72 extra-base hits, the most by an Astros player since Lance Berkman had 79 in 2008.“This season has definitely been the best so far personally,” Bregman said. “But I think that’s strictly due to the fact that I’m just trying to go up there and trying to put together a good at-bat and trying to help this team win games.”Tyler White singled to start the Houston second before Gurriel reached on an error by Polanco at shortstop. Brian McCann followed with an RBI single and Evan Gattis then grounded into a double play that allowed another run to score for a 3-0 lead.Gurriel homered off Gibson in the fourth.Keuchel had retired seven straight when Mitch Garver singled with one out in the sixth. An error by shortstop Carlos Correa, who overthrew first base, allowed Robbie Grossman to reach before the Twins cut the lead to 4-1 on an RBI single by Miguel Sano. But Keuchel struck out Jake Cave and Tyler Austin to end the inning and leave the runners stranded.Gibson settled down after the homer to Gurriel and retired the last 11 batters he faced before Matt Magill took over for the eighth.TRAINER’S ROOMAstros: RHP Hector Rondon left the game after deflecting a ball hit by Cave off his right hand in the ninth inning. Rondon’s hand was swollen after the game but he said X-rays were negative and he thinks he’ll be OK after a couple of days. … Houston INF Marwin Gonzalez left after the first inning because of discomfort in his right oblique. … RHP Charlie Morton (shoulder discomfort) played catch for the second straight day and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in the next couple of days. Hinch said if that goes well he’ll come off the disabled list to start against Boston on Saturday. If he can’t go the Astros will start rookie Josh James, who made his major league debut on Saturday.THEY SAID ITHinch on the ball that hit Rondon: “He’s lucky he put his arm up. If you look at the replay it probably saved his face. I think it even got a little bit of flesh and not so much the bone. Very scary.”UP NEXTJustin Verlander (13-9, 2.78 ERA) will start for Houston against Trevor May (3-0, 1.88) when the series continues on Tuesday night. Verlander ranks second in the American League behind teammate Gerrit Cole with 240 strikeouts this season.
